i don’t know about you, but i am a BIG show and movie re-watcher. i have a multi-decades long parasocial relationship with the ladies of SATC, to the point that sometimes i miss them after i finish a rewatch. as a self-proclaimed HBO-head, i tend to gravitate towards shows like “GIRLS”, “The Sopranos”, and “Boardwalk Empire” for their exquisite writing and high (!!) production value. i also love “Mildred Pierce” (best mini-series ever).
that said, with my own commitment to quitting streaming services and these scary unethical mergers, I’ve found such comfort in knowing that i can just pop on a DVD at home with my thrifted DVD player—endlessly hanging with my friends. i get all of my DVDs used at thrift stores, record stores, and occasionally on eBay or ThriftBooks when i’m looking to fill a gap in my collection. feels good to own more and more of my media again, especially since streaming services can literally disappear shows and movies (“Finding Neverland” is impossible to watch in the US unless you pirate it…)
also, not for nothing, but i love that when an episode ends, the credits roll. no automatic playing of the next episode, but me faced with the decision if i’m going to watch the next episode. how novel!
